General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
Attendance Line: 403-777-7760
In the event of student absence, the parent/guardian is asked to call the school and leave a message. Please leave the following information:
- name of student(s)
- grade(s)
- teacher(s)
- reason for absence or lateness
- length of absence if known
Attendance will be taken each morning and afternoon, and in cases where the parent/guardian has not informed the school, every effort will be made to contact the parent/guardian to verify the absence.
Illness at School
When a student becomes ill at school, they should notify the classroom teacher, who will send or take the student to the office. If the student appears to be seriously ill, the parents will be notified and the student will be allowed to go home accompanied, preferably, by the parent or emergency contact on file. Students will not be permitted to go with an adult who is not on their emergency contact list. Students should be using school phones to contact parents, not their cell phones.
Under NO circumstances should a student who is ill remain in the washroom without contacting the office. Students not able to remain in class must report to the office. If they are too ill to return to class, the best and safest place is at home.
Medical Conditions
Please advise us immediately if your child has a severe medical condition, including allergies and asthma. You will be given a Student Health Plan form to complete, which will be communicated to relevant staff as appropriate. It is also important to communicate details to the classroom teacher right from the first day of school.
Medication
Administration of medication is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian and can only be administered at the school if consent is provided in the Student Health Plan. Asthma inhalers and allergy medications should be on hand at the school at all times in case of emergency.
Allergies
Elboya is a nut aware school, meaning that we cannot guarantee that nuts won’t be brought to school.
Due to the very serious nature of peanut and nut allergies in general, we ask all members of the school community to avoid bringing peanut and nut products to school in snacks or lunches. While we realize that there are a number of other foods which can be potentially life threatening to those with severe allergies, we are targeting nuts.

Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
