Working Together at Elboya School

Elboya School strives to be a community in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Home and school share the responsibility for appropriate social behaviour. By working together, we can encourage positive student conduct.

Expectations in Specific Areas

On the bus

Student behaviour while riding the bus can positively or negatively affect the safety of all. Bus misconducts may result in loss of riding privileges. Bus regulations are available on the CBE website at https://www.cbe.ab.ca/GovernancePolicies/AR6095.pdf

The buses run on strict schedules to accommodate a second run with another school. After school, students are responsible for moving to the buses immediately. Buses depart 10 minutes after the dismissal bell. Students who miss the bus are responsible for arranging their own way home. If a student requires riding on a different bus, a note written and signed by the parent(s) is required. The note must be brought to the office before noon on Mondays to Thursdays and by the end of nutrition break on Fridays.

With our neighbours in the community

Elboya students have a reputation for being upstanding citizens who respect the homes and businesses in the community. To uphold this reputation, students are asked to stay off all private property. Students are also asked to behave in a respectful, appropriate manner when traveling through the community and visiting parks or business establishments.

  • Check in with the Library Assistant if you are not under the direct supervision of a teacher.

With substitute teachers

Most school days, there is a guest teacher in the building. We depend on guest teachers to fill in for teachers who are absent for various reasons. We treat substitute teachers as guests in the school, and we expect students to be even more polite and even better behaved than usual since the substitute teacher does not know names, routines, or procedures. Teachers will establish protocols for students to follow when they have a guest teacher, and students will be held to a high standard of behaviour.

Harassment

Harassment is defined as any persistent behaviour that humiliates or harms another person.

At Elboya, we support students in learning appropriate ways to communicate and interact. Our expectation is that students will adhere to the CBE Student Code of Conduct at all times.

Disrespectful Language

We strive to maintain a culture of respect for all. Students have the right to be treated respectfully and have a responsibility to treat all others with respect. Disrespectful language is regarded as unacceptable on school property. If students engage in disrespectful language, teachers will contact home, and administration may become involved as a part of the CBE Progressive Discipline Regulation.

To address the problems of harassment and bullying, staff and students are taught how to identify inappropriate behaviours and how to respond to these behaviours. Victims or witnesses of harassment or bullying should seek out the assistance of school personnel to mediate the conflict.

If parents know or suspect that their child is being harassed or bullied, they should talk to their child's teacher or an administrator.

School administrators and teachers will work together to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students. The school appreciates the support of parents when dealing with behavior unbecoming of an Elboya Citizen. When responding to unacceptable student behaviour, a teacher or principal might consider a number of consequences including but not limited to. a) community service b) alternate supervised location c) short term removal of privileges.
