Dear Parents,

Last week students eased in smoothly to school routines and you could feel a buzz in the air as they were reconnecting with friends as well as getting to know their teacher(s).  We are pleased to be able to kick off the year with a variety of athletic opportunities for our students in Grades 6-9.  Throughout the year there will be more occasions where your student can get involved and contribute to strengthening our learning community.  Please encourage your child to get involved.

Parents may be aware of Elboya’s overflow designation due to capacity.  This new process has been a learning curve.  Many families have been directed to our overflow sites Chinook Park (elementary) & Woodman (jr. high) when certain grades at Elboya reached capacity.  Contrarily, we are also experiencing families that are moving out of our area so we are looking carefully at enrollment on a daily basis and have begun the “call back” process to bring back students that were originally sent to one of our overflow schools.  Balancing our classes whilst ensuring our numbers are healthy is tricky!

For Grades 6-9

Please see the attached athletics schedule for next week,  Elboya athletics Sept 11-15 (3).pdf   we have a busy week with basketball starting, soccer tryouts continuing and our first cross country meet!

Terry Fox (All Grades) On Friday, September 15th, Elboya School is hosting our annual Terry Fox day and run! We will start with different activities highlighting Terry’s impacts, followed by an assembly and neighborhood run.  This day will be a celebration of why your child runs for Terry.  Please ensure your student is dressed for the weather, wears sunscreen and has a water bottle. Students should come to school in comfortable clothes and wear their house colours!

We are continuing to fundraise for the Terry Fox foundation and cancer research until Friday September 22nd. Fundraising for the Terry Fox foundation will take place on-line at the following link https://schools.terryfox.ca/Elboya

We thank you for your ongoing support to support cancer research!

Wishing families a happy first full-week of school!
