Meet the Teacher & Welcome Back BBQ

What a great turnout at last week’s Meet the Teacher & Welcome Back BBQ! Community-building events like this bring connection and school pride, both for students and families. We hope families had a chance to meet their students’ teachers and get a sense of the wonderful school happenings we offer at Elboya.

If you didn’t get a chance, you can still purchase a yearbook and school spirit wear. See information below.

Un gros merci — a big thank you to our generous School Council and the many volunteers who make events like this possible.

Orange Shirt Day

Students are reminded to wear orange tomorrow in recognition of survivors of residential schools and to take an anti-bullying stance.

Wishing families a meaningful day on Wednesday as you take time to reflect, learn, and engage in Truth and Reconciliation. Whether you spend time on the land, attend a community event, listen to Indigenous voices, or engage in personal learning, every step toward understanding, respect and reconciliACTION matters.

A friendly reminder that there is no school for students on Wednesday as it is Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Math Educator of the Year

Felicitations!

Congratulations to our own Mme Carla French, who won the ATA Mathematics Council Award.

LEAD Program Opportunity

The City of Calgary offers a certification leadership program for youth in Grades 7–12 called Leadership, Empowerment, Achieving a Difference (LEAD).

This program has two requirements:

  1. Completion of nine pre-determined modules covering various aspects of leadership.
  2. Completion of 20 hours of practicum experience to put learned leadership skills into practice.

This program will be offered after school at Elboya starting October 5.

Please note that this is not a CBE-sponsored program. The City of Calgary is renting the school space.

See the program information and registration packages below:

Traffic Safety

Keeping streets safe is a shared responsibility.

Drivers — Please Keep the Following in Mind

  • Be patient, even when you are running late. Take time to make safe and smart decisions.
  • Obey the posted speed limit and drive cautiously when children are present.
  • Watch for school buses. They have big blind spots, poor manoeuvrability and need lots of space to move.
  • Scan for pedestrians between parked vehicles, as pedestrians may step out unexpectedly.
  • Do not enter school bus loading zones. Stop or park in designated zones only so buses can safely pull into their designated space.
  • Avoid making U-turns in a playground zone or near crosswalks.

Wishing Everyone a Great Week!
