At our school, we continue to prioritize student well-being by fostering a warm, inclusive environment where every learner feels seen and valued. This year, our upcoming Culture Day is designed to celebrate and deepen cultural understanding within our diverse school community. To further this commitment, we've introduced monthly bulletin boards highlighting culturally significant occasions and affirmations that inspire and uplift. Students have also contributed interactive displays - like ways to say hello in different languages - that promote connection and curiosity. Another popular feature is our “Where We’re From” board, where students proudly mark their countries of origin, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of our school.
Together, these initiatives create a sense of belonging and shared pride, helping every student feel like a meaningful part of our learning community.
Culture Day
Culture Day is fast approaching. Students are asked to bring in a food item celebrating their cultural background. Sampling of food will take place during period 4 on Apr. 24, just before lunch. Please list food ingredients. Over the lunch hour, the gym will be set up in a “fair style” so that students can showcase items, games, etc. from their culture and others will have an opportunity to walk around the gym, participating in activities and learning from their peers. Parents are also invited to participate over the lunch hour with their student. If you have a something to share over the lunch hour of Apr. 24 (12:30-1pm), for example, henna, baking, a game from your cultural background, please email Ms. Kryczka (sokryczka@cbe.ab.ca).
French Week – Apr. 14-17
Elboya will be celebrating Semaine de la Francophonie from April 14 - 17 with a week full of exciting cultural activities! Students can look forward to a French music competition, fun trivia questions, a tasty cabane à sucre experience for all classes, photo ops with Bonhomme and a special Career Day for French program students featuring guest speakers. Looking forward to celebrating French language and culture together!
Athletics week of April 7-11
We are looking forward to the badminton season ahead. As the season is brief, please review if your child can attend Divisionals prior to trying out. Divisionals are 4-8pm at James Fowler High School. Tryout days and timing will be similar to practice days. Unless otherwise communicated. Please note full attendance at both tryouts is required unless otherwise communicated.
Wishing everyone a great week!
