On December 7, 2023 students from Elboya’s Grade 8 Late Immersion program visited the Grade 4 students at William Reid for a full day of learning, en français.

The collaboration between students in practicing oral French skills through reading and board games was an enriching and enjoyable experience for both age groups. As the older students took on the role of mentors, guiding their younger counterparts through French reading sessions, a sense of camaraderie and shared learning emerged. This initiative allowed for engaging interactions, with the older students providing valuable support in pronunciation and comprehension. The choice of age-appropriate French literature ensured that the content was accessible and fostered a positive learning environment.

The incorporation of French vocabulary while playing board games further deepened the language exchange in a fun and authentic way. These games not only challenged the students intellectually but also encouraged them to express themselves in French within the context of friendly competition. This hands-on approach to language learning not only enhanced language acquisition but also allowed the students to bond over a shared goal, creating lasting memories and fostering a love of the French language.

By creating this supportive and inclusive environment, both age groups felt comfortable and motivated to participate in authentic French learning.  Overall, the experience demonstrates to the power of collaborative learning, breaking down age barriers and fostering a positive, supportive environment for language acquisition.
